Farm Fresh Friday #9

Welcome to Farm Fresh Friday

This week on the prairie...

New Potatoes!!

Beautiful Reds
and Yukon Golds
mmmmm, delicious!!

You may not believe it, but,
new potatoes are what brought
Sall and I together....

It was nine years ago when he came into my
greenhouse to check out my plants for sale....
well, when he saw me - he forgot what he came in for!
For the next several consecutive weekends
this gentleman kept patronizing my greenhouse business...
instead of buying plants from me, he would bring
my mother and I sacks full of garden fresh vegetables!
Garlic, Onions, Broccoli
you name it!  This guy grew it!!
But, the best was....
His new potatoes
they were better than
a dozen red roses!!

I had never been swooned
with fresh veggies before!
Sometimes you can get knocked
off your rocker by the strangest things!!

This stranger and his green thumbs
was the cutest thing to walk through
my shop doors EVER!!
He had me with the taters,
and the rest is history!

(He still grows the most delicious
Yukon Golds on the planet!!)

"I bet you never expected romance
on Farm Fresh Friday?"

One never knows what to expect around here...

I hope you'll share something fun and fresh
with us this week!...

Rural Thursday

Happy Rural Thursday Friends!

Thank you for coming down
my country road!!

I fixed a pitcher of lemonade for us...

hope you can sit
and chill with me!!

Under the grape arbor is
a great morning spot....

I've been busy making our pickle kitchen
into a motel for this weekend's guests!
(It was a huge project, as our
pickle kitchen has been a storage
facility for all of our excess junk!!)
Sall installed a shower and now the
place is nicer than our house!!
I'm thinking about moving in myself!

One last day of final touches today
and I'm calling it good.
I'm missing my blogging buddies
and am anxious to go do some visiting!

The sprinkler is running,
the birds are singing...
let's sit down and catch up!!
(now if I could just get this computer out to the grape arbor??)

Enjoy being "Hot" today!!

Farm Fresh Friday #8

Welcome to Farm Fresh Friday

This week on the prairie...

My prized lillies are wide open
and on parade!!....

TWO weeks ahead of normal...

can you believe it??

I've been showing them off
to my 4th of July visitors
for 8 years!!

My sister-in-law gave me 3 bulbs shortly
after we were married and we moved to this farm.

Every year (on the 4th of JULY!!) I show her how magnificent
they are and how they've multiplied!!

This has been such a weird year weather-wise...

I'm a little disappointed,
by the time our company shows up
this year,
they'll just be a bed of topless stalks!!

I take pictures of them everyday,
maybe my guests will have
to settle for a slide show instead!

Anyway....

Sall and I got to the FARMER'S MARKET

(that strawberry rhubarb pie sucked us in!
I have a feeling we'll be regular customers
for the rest of the summer!)

However, we didn't get there
quite early enough...
the Strawberry/Rhubarb was sold out
so
we had to settle for
Raspberry/Rhubarb instead...

mmmm,
too bad it was so good,
we demolished it before
I had a chance to take
any pictures!!

This time there were more vendors
and more baked goods...

something for everyone...

I never leave a Farmer's Market
empty-handed!!

I love FRESH and I love
 supporting a farmer/gardener!

I hope the market in your
neighborhood is up and running...

and we'd love it if you could share it
here at
"Farm Fresh Friday"!!!

Company Is Coming

Happy Summer my friend!

doesn't time fly
when we're having fun?

it's 2 short weeks from the 4th of July
(oh my, I have a lot to do before our company gets here!)

I don't think there's time to paint the silo!

I better just focus on mowing the yard
and getting fresh sheets on all the beds!!

Have a glorious day!

Summer Again

Summer

today?

Really?

How are things in your world?

Mine feels like a merry-go-round
spinning far too fast!!

Just A Bunch Of Bull

(cue the Spanish bullfighting music here.)

source: internet google: bullfight

We had an interesting visitor at our
place the other night....

I grabbed the camera and then
carefully kept the truck between
me and our visitor at all times...

he didn't seem too interested in me,
by the sounds of the ugly noises he
was making....
......
well, it sounded like he was looking
for a little companionship
but,
not the two legged kind!

When he didn't see any
heifers in our yard he
turned around and went back
the way he came....

He makes our silo look small!!

That's been the only excitement around here lately....

Well, that and watching
the storms pass through...

They are fun to watch....

Our friend, Jacob,
visits every summer from
North Carolina...
he gets to experience some
very different weather from back home!

Thought you might enjoy some of our
many amazing cloud formations...

one thing about living on the prairie
you can look Mother Nature right in the eye
right before she plasters
you with rain and hail,
and a gust or two
of tree-rockin wind!!

Farm Fresh Friday #7

Welcome to Farm Fresh Friday
#7

This week on the prairie...

Wind....

Heat....

Bugs....

and Wild Weather....

We get it all here on the prairie!
 It doesn't make gardening
very easy most years.
If you want homegrown vegetables,
you better be prepared to
deal with whatever rolls through!

This week it was a hail storm...

the hail stones stayed small and didn't do any damage
(about the size of a quarter)
but, we aren't out the woods yet...
one year a hail storm completely wiped
out our garden in late July!!
We pray to the weather Gods
often!!

So far we've been harvesting
lots of lettuce...
FRESH salads with
our dinner every night
has been delightful!!

Our onions are just big enough
to start picking and enjoying!!

I added one to some homemade
potato salad for dinner last night
(too bad the potatoes aren't ready yet!)
mmmm, can't wait for new potatoes...

Sall's supersweet onions
are perfect with about anything!

Summer salads with fresh vegetables...
MMMM........
Priceless!!

How about you?
Got anything fresh to share this week?

Farm Fresh Friday #6

Welcome to Farm Fresh Friday
#6

This week on the prairie...

Hot and Dry!
Not so happy in the rain department this week!
Sall has brought out the soaker hoses
Thank goodness for rural water,
the meter has been running this week!
With temps in the upper 80's and 90's, south winds a blowing
it's been a job keeping everything from drying up!

On Tuesday I made a special trip
to Huron just to get to the first open
Farmer's Market!
It wasn't too well attended,
but it's plenty early for around here!

The vendors had their
wares displayed so nicely...
I was thrilled to see fresh produce,
but when I saw the homemade breads and pies
I almost melted!

Oh, the temptation of it all....
who can resist
locally made...fresh....home grown??

Not me!

The best thing I found was
this scrumptious looking
strawberry rhubarb pie!!

Do you know how long
Sall has been wanting a strawberry rhubarb pie??
About 11 years (as long as I've known him)!
So, when she told me what kind it was
I quickly grabbed the check book
and I knew hubby was in for a treat tonight!!

Whoever said "you can't buy happiness",
obviously, never shopped at a Farmer's Market?

Support your local Farmer's Markets
It's totally worth it!!

Thanks for joining us for Farm Fresh Friday...
see you here next week!
P.S. in case you're wondering, the pie was awesome!
Tasted better than it looked, and a total hit with Sall.
That will be difficult to one-up.
