Farm Fresh Friday #20
Welcome to
Farm Fresh Friday!
FRESH veggie season
is coming to an end here on the prairie...
Tuesday morning,
EARLY morning
(around 1:30 a.m.)
the temps dropped below freezing....
when we went out to the garden
around 7 a.m.
there was
FROST
on the pumpkins!!
We took precautions
and put sheets over some of
the tomato and pepper plants
and luckily
the frost
was not severe enough to harm them!
So we were pardoned
by Mother Nature herself
and granted one more week
of gardening...
We have several jalapeno
plants still loaded with peppers
so we decided to make
some chipolte!!
Sall experimented Saturday...
On the smoker,
was a slab of baby back ribs
and jalapenos....
We bought a small package
of fresh raspberries...
he cooked the raspberries, a little vinegar,
some sugar, and a few chipoltes
real slow until he got just
the right thickness
this sauce is wonderful drizzled
over a half of jalapeno pepper
filled with cream cheese and topped with a chunk of bacon...
Bake the filled peppers until the bacon is cooked,
then drizzle the raspberry chipolte sauce over the top
mmmm, spicy - sweet - salty -
all melded together with cream cheese...
it's fantastic!!
While Sall was smoking ribs and peppers
and watching football,
I was busy decorating with
the pumpkins and gourds
we purchased from the
roadside melon stand.
When you're ready to start
your Fall Decorating,
the first place to stop
is Larson's Melon Stand!!
They have everything you need
for a proper
Fall country display!
Pumpkins GALORE....
Gourds of all sizes and colors....
I love shopping for unusual pumpkins
and I always have to buy gourds
for my indoor and outdoor decoration...
This year we went all the way
to Mitchell (home of the world's only corn palace)
and stopped at one of the city's garden centers
They had some beautiful
colored corn
just like you find
in the artwork covering
the Corn Palace!
the mums were colorful too....
picking out the
perfect pumpkin
from rows of home-grown
South Dakota pumpkins
is no easy task
and
should not be taken lightly!
Some would say
I take my fall decorating
too seriously...
but, those loafers
just don't appreciate
fall like I do!
Happy Pumpkin Hunting!
Please share whatever you're
harvesting with us this week!!
This is a place to share all things FRESH,
homemade and/or home-grown.
There is no rule that it has to be made by you or grown by you,
just the fact that it was
hand made or grown by somebody
and not mass-produced or imported from Timmbucktu is good enough for us!!
