Mother of the Bride

Finally some good news...
my mom's biopsy came back good,
I'll spare the details,
just knowing she can be
treated with antibiotics and therapy
is a huge relief!  She can be moved
to a hospital closer to home where
her friends and family can visit her.
Her grand-daughter's wedding trip can proceed...
We will travel to Florida for wedding vows
while Grandma is on the road to recovery!

Our prayers have been answered.

Grandma will be right there on
the beach with us in our thoughts...
just as she was there at our weddings

Grandma in her purple gown and
metallic shoes. Giving my sister
her motherly approval!

My sister with her mother, mother-in-law, and grand-mother.
Barb's bridal bouquet was the most gorgeous orchid attached
to a small white bible that her deceased grand-mother gave her.

Grandma helping me with
final primping before my wedding in 2003.

On Monday May 2nd
my sister and I will be fussing over
my niece's hair and crying over
how beautiful she looks!!
That's what mom's and aunts are for, right?

Her mom will hand her
 Great-Grandma's white bible
with a beautiful orchid
and tell her how proud she is!

It will be a fun week for all of us in
St. Augustine, Florida!
I can't wait!

See you on the beach...
I'll be the one with the camera,

Far away, there in the sunshine,
 are my highest aspirations….
I can look up and see their beauty,
believe in them,
and try to follow where they lead.
—Louisa May Alcott

I've been spending a lot of hours
in a hospital room with my mother.
As she lay there resting, I can't
help but wonder where the years went.
I never think of her as old, but laying
there so helpless suddenly she looks
like my Grandmother. Mom's should just
stay mom's....always there with an apron on
and ready to cook you whatever you want!
Sending surprise packages home with you,
and calling up with dumb questions!!
She is 80 now and the road to recovery
just keeps getting longer and harder.
My dad would always ask me,
"what would we do without her?"
I really don't want to find out.

"Lord, give her strength and will to carry on,
if that doesn't work maybe some fabric and a new quilt pattern!"

Earth Day Greetings

Happy Earth Day!

Are you as concerned as I am about our planet?

How about our grand-children's planet?

What is something you are doing to help save our planet?
Any small part makes a huge difference!

Let's do something!
I hate to see a good thing go to waste....

Have you hugged a tree lately?

Memories From the Greenhouse

Plants arrived at the local greenhouse last week!
I think the day after they arrived
it snowed 2 inches...
the sun hasn't been out since
and the temps just keep dropping.

In the good ol' days the greenhouses
were open and selling like crazy in April!
 (Well,in Kansas!!)
In South Dakota we always had our
plants in by the first of May and hoped
for warm weather and some eager customers
 ready to start planting!

My grandparent's greenhouse in Lennox
was the popular place to be in spring of the 1950's!

circa 1960
Mom with sister Rhonda and brother Dave in front of Grandpa Pete's Greenhouse

My parents started their own greenhouse
back in the 60's when I was just
old enough to carry a sprinkling can.

I took over the family greenhouse and
expanded it in 1989 until 2007.

My mother and I ran a tight ship
and had the prettiest spot in town....

those were some good times!

I'm thinking about my mom tonight,as she is in the hospital.
May dreams of flowers and sunshine,
and good memories from the greenhouse
sustain her through a painful and trying journey,

A Wednesday Thought

If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

Thank you for popping in!
When life gives me troubled waters,
I turn here for peace and comfort.

I hope you're sailing through a calm week,

In the Garden

It's time to share one of my projects...

It involves all of my favorite things:
playing on the computer,
and my favorite
place of history in Wessington Springs

I've been putting together a new website
for our local
Shakespeare Garden
they needed an updated
presence on the world wide web
so, I introduced them to Blogger.

I hope you'll give it a visit and
tell me what you think!

(I'm still working on transferring a blog to a
registered domain name
if anyone has ever been down this
road before let me know.)

We are going to have fun
promoting all the wonderful things
they do at the cottage and garden
 throughout the year!

I hope the site will attract
some attention and entice some summer
travelers to come for a visit...
Come have a cup of tea in Hathaway Cottage
then stroll through Shakespeare Garden.
We love sharing our
little piece of heaven with everyone!
See you this summer...

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Sharing a Bright Moment

The sun was shining...
promise of spring was in the air
April 12th, I walked around the
farm and captured
a beautiful blue sky
shining over our old silo....

Warm and sunny days have
been few and far between lately!

Hope your weekend is full of sunshine and happiness!

Here We Go Again

Yep, here we go again....
I got up this morning and checked our emails...
This is what our local weather station
is sending out today....

A major storm system is developing this morning across the upper plains with rain showers increasing around Sioux Falls and more snowfall to the west in the Black Hills.  Rain and snow will expand as the day continues, with the rain/snow line advancing between Pierre and Rapid City during the afternoon.

There goes MY parade!

So much for raking and rolling in the grass,
I guess it'll be an indoor weekend (again)

On the POSITIVE side it will
give me more time to
work on a new project or two!

(The trouble with idle time,
is that it gives me too much time
to dream up more projects!)

Hope the weather stays bright and cheery
where you are!

I'll be out dancing
with my snow shovel.

Life's Blessings

Just living is not enough.
 One must have sunshine, freedom,

Shower Forecast

I've spent all day today shopping and
preparing for a very special Bride!

I can't believe my little
tom-boy niece is getting married!

It seems like just yesterday we
were driving to Iowa for her first dance recital...

Now we're driving to Sioux Falls
to shower her with bridal gifts and tips!

OH Yes, you can be sure
her Aunts and closest friends
will be full of advice...

She thinks she's ready to
get all domesticated

 and entering
matrimonial bliss???

We will have a fun time teasing
her about giving up the single life...
but, we all know what
a "keeper" her Charlie is
and know it will be a lifetime
of wedded bliss!

{"Congratulations sweet Tara,
your Auntie loves you very much!"}

I'm counting the days to see her
on the beach in St.Augustine
in a beautiful white wedding dress.
Tears of joy will be flowing!

Have a joyful Saturday...
shower someone you know with love today!
