Saved By a Fence

Ever road hunted before?

South Dakota pheasants
are pretty smart...

they start out here....

in the ditches
and along the roadside
where it's legal to shoot them...

then they land
in Mr. Farmer's field
where they know they're safe

Do you see them?

Do you see them yet?....

they're heading for the safety
of another fence...

they aren't sure if
Mr. Hunter knows the
rules or not,
so just in case...

they cackle
(that's pheasant talk for "Run For Your Life!")
and start to fly way out
to the middle of
Mr. Farmers corn field.

Another close call for Mr. Pheasant!

We'll get'em next time Max!

("He hates hunting with me,
my camera doesn't shoot
real bullets, and he never
gets to retrieve!")

Have a great Friday my friend,

He may not get to retrieve, but he does get a good long walk, and maybe roll in something while you are busy. Or that is what my dogs do...
I love that first capture, looking up toward the top of the hill!!

Smart pheasants, even though you were only trying to take a picture! We don't have that many pheasant around here, just their really big, gawky bird-cousins, turkeys. Soooo many turkeys, unbelievable. And no one seems to hunt them.

And you've had snow already......oh, groan. I'm not looking forward to that. We were in the 70's Wednesday and Thursday and then the cold front came through last night and hello 45 degrees. But at least the sun is shining. Good luck with the house siding...we're still trying to get some mortaring done this fall, too. Let's hope the Canadians keep all the snow this year, ha!! I feel the same way about it as Max does, love that photo.

wow, they really are hard to catch. almost invisible. that is wild. good for them i guess. lovely views. (:
Your post reminded me of several years ago when we were driving through South Dakota and kept seeing the pheasants on the roadside and in the ditches--I guess for that time of the year, they knew they were safe! I'd not thought of that in a long time--Thanks for reminding me of a good memory! :-)

I hope you're doing well, and I hope you have a good weekend!

I used to try to convince my dad to shoot game with a camera. Never worked.

Your dog is adorable.

Thanks for sharing with Your Sunday Best this week.
