Rain, Rain, Stay Away

Well, from the drought of 2002 to the floods of 2010, we've come full circle!!
Winds, hail, Round-up,drought, bugs, flooding rains....we've seen it all and we still keep trying.
(The postman doesn't even have to put up with all that we have!!!)
What can we do... the pickles must be made!!!

These are Sall's gorgeous tomato plants.  Protected from the ferocious winds with plastic, unfortunately sitting in solid mud!!
After 4.5 inches of rain on already saturated ground!
The entrance to the garden catches and holds all the excess water from the back yard.
So, start digging!!!!
I started digging trenches for the next rains, and they immediately started filling up with water.
Next, we cut the bottoms out of some pots and dug up the drowning pepper plants and re-potted them on top of the ground.

The wind is only blowing 40 - 50 mph today.  Drying things out quite nicely. Notice the poor plant struggling to stand up, as was I!!!
Oh well...we'll continue on this great pickle journey with determination and a good sense of humor.
We know it will all be worth it in the end.
Stay tuned......

With all that mud I'm thinking hog farming may be more lucrative for you two! b
Have you seen the price of pigs lately? We'll stick to pickles.
