Spring and Hunting

has an informative website in case you are
interested in a hunting trip to the best
waterfowl hunting spots in the state.

The Spring Light Goose Season
is open now:
Feb. 12, 2011 - May 1, 2011
Snows, Blues, and Ross' Geese

Last fall we had an excellent opportunity
for goose hunting as the fields were loaded with them.
Two young friends headed out and got their limits.
They came back to our house
to chew out Sall for not getting up early
and joining them,
and had to pose for some pictures
of their bounty....

the back of Andy's shirt
reads "Flight Cancelled"
so that's what I labelled
this hunting photo collage....

Today it's really blustery out
and I noticed a small group of geese
flying really low over our property.

"Have no fear Geese, today is
mosaic monday and the only thing
I'm shooting is my camera!"

Have a happy Monday,friends!

Going to be some fine eating! I do hate to see them shot, but if we didn't.......
Do you happen to have a good recipe for goose? Whenever I or my husband makes it, it's so gamey tasting. Thanks:)

yup, the flight was definitely aborted for those geese!
Sharon - I agree, I'd hate for them to get some disease, I read how the geese are destroying nesting habitat because they are so over-populated now. hmmm,I guess they are smarter than humans!

Wife of a dairyman - Sorry, I've never cooked one myself. A friend of ours cooks a lot of game, he always seasons well and cooks slow and low for tenderness. Serve with wine and it's always delicious :)

I used to be (naively) against all hunting, but have come to realize that, without natural predators, things get out of balance. Hunting for food is a noble tradition and hunters, as a group, are great supporters of conservation. Anyway, you've created a very nice collage!

A great mosaic and I love Bailey Road's comment...hunting is a noble tradition. Around my area (KY) every hunter I know is very interested in conservation of the land.

Not really my scene but I understand the reasons and need for the geese to be culled it was the same on the farm we lived on for over twenty years in the UK. A flock of Canada Geese from a nearby fishing lake were always damaging the crops.

A fellow Dakotan! I am so happy to have found your blog. I have a goose recipe I'll share soon! It's yummy. We live in the fly way zone and have a lot of goose hunting. I use that same SD web site to find out fishing details. We live in ND but go down to SD for some summer camping and fishing!
