Farm Fresh Friday #6

Welcome to Farm Fresh Friday
#6

This week on the prairie...

Hot and Dry!
Not so happy in the rain department this week!
Sall has brought out the soaker hoses
Thank goodness for rural water,
the meter has been running this week!
With temps in the upper 80's and 90's, south winds a blowing
it's been a job keeping everything from drying up!

On Tuesday I made a special trip
to Huron just to get to the first open
Farmer's Market!
It wasn't too well attended,
but it's plenty early for around here!

The vendors had their
wares displayed so nicely...
I was thrilled to see fresh produce,
but when I saw the homemade breads and pies
I almost melted!

Oh, the temptation of it all....
who can resist
locally made...fresh....home grown??

Not me!

The best thing I found was
this scrumptious looking
strawberry rhubarb pie!!

Do you know how long
Sall has been wanting a strawberry rhubarb pie??
About 11 years (as long as I've known him)!
So, when she told me what kind it was
I quickly grabbed the check book
and I knew hubby was in for a treat tonight!!

Whoever said "you can't buy happiness",
obviously, never shopped at a Farmer's Market?

Support your local Farmer's Markets
It's totally worth it!!

Thanks for joining us for Farm Fresh Friday...
see you here next week!
P.S. in case you're wondering, the pie was awesome!
Tasted better than it looked, and a total hit with Sall.
That will be difficult to one-up.

This is a place to share all things FRESH,
 homemade and/or home-grown.
There is no rule that it has to be made by you or grown by you,
just the fact that it was
hand made or grown by somebody
and not mass-produced or imported from Timmbucktu is good enough for us!!

Strawberry Rhubarb would make a hit at this address too! I am making a rhubarb bread today . . . It will have to suffice. Market trip here in the morning is my idea of "the best time!"

Why are fresh out of the ground radishes so pretty? I love them....I sort of feel the same way about fresh eggs. No matter where I am if someone mentions farmer's market I am there. Enjoy your bounty. Bonnie

All those fresh baked goods are too good... I don't dare bring them into the house! But the veggies? Bring me a truck load!

i love strawberry/rhubarb pie! our local grocer actually carries them in summer, but not nearly as good as fresh-made!

those radishes look yummy, too!
Hi Lisa
I've been cooking strawberry and rhubarb together and eating it without the pastry...I do like pies though. (so do my hips LOL)
I shopped our farmers' market again, ours is on Thursdays and came home with salad greens, a steak and kidney pie and my new favourite, sweet potato chips.

Your farmer's market looks lovely! I absolutely LOVE farmer's markets, providing they are not more like swap meets than farmer's markets. :)

We have two in my city, and I've only visited one so far. It ebbs and flows from week to week whether it's good or not, and it's at an inconvenient-for-me time, so I think I'll try the other one. It's on Saturday mornings, which is a great way to get out bright and early. :D

What a lovely Farmer's Market! I really like the "build your own salad" idea! I think I'll mention it to some of our produce vendors. :)
I just got back from our local Farmer's Market awhile ago. I had a really good day selling my baked goods. I keep thinking I should do pies, maybe when the local peaches and apples start coming in...
I love farmers markets too--I feel strongly about supporting the local growers and the bakers too!! :-)

I hope you're enjoying your weekend and I hope that the pie was as good as it looked!
Thanks so much for the invite. The fresh breads, pies and eggs, how fabulous is that. I would love some. Hugs, marty
