Farm Fresh Friday #7

Welcome to Farm Fresh Friday
#7

This week on the prairie...

Wind....

Heat....

Bugs....

and Wild Weather....

We get it all here on the prairie!
 It doesn't make gardening
very easy most years.
If you want homegrown vegetables,
you better be prepared to
deal with whatever rolls through!

This week it was a hail storm...

the hail stones stayed small and didn't do any damage
(about the size of a quarter)
but, we aren't out the woods yet...
one year a hail storm completely wiped
out our garden in late July!!
We pray to the weather Gods
often!!

So far we've been harvesting
lots of lettuce...
FRESH salads with
our dinner every night
has been delightful!!

Our onions are just big enough
to start picking and enjoying!!

I added one to some homemade
potato salad for dinner last night
(too bad the potatoes aren't ready yet!)
mmmm, can't wait for new potatoes...

Sall's supersweet onions
are perfect with about anything!

Summer salads with fresh vegetables...
MMMM........
Priceless!!

How about you?
Got anything fresh to share this week?

This is a place to share all things FRESH,
 homemade and/or home-grown.
There is no rule that it has to be made by you or grown by you,
just the fact that it was
hand made or grown by somebody
and not mass-produced or imported from Timmbucktu is good enough for us!!

That is quite the scary looking storm! Hailstones the size of a quarter would be considered big around here!

Your veggies are gorgeous!

Onions look and sound good. I planted different kinds of lettuce in my flower pots, along with different flowers this year. We too are eating lots of salads. Not sure why I didn't think of doing this before. So far the bunnies are confused looking for their big pot of "lettuce only" that I did last year! The best thing is it provides wonderful green color, texture in the midst of the flowers . . .

Anyone know of a good recipe for slugs or worms? They are eating my petunias and its time to make stew with them.

Here on the Nebraska (south-central) it has been dry and windy -- keeping my garden very thirsty. We did have some storms roll thru last night -- everything looked happy this morning -- no hail though - thankfully!

Your garden photos are great :)

Blessings!

Not a fan of hail...right now we can't even get rain. I'd rather have the rain thatn the hail of course.

Love home grown foods. Our onions are still trucking, like you we are waiting for the potatoes!
tomatoes are getting there too.

Have a super weekend.

Melinda
All that wonderful fresh produce, well-done !
We've had our share of hail this past month, everyone in the County now has a new roof, or a new car !

Oh my that storm photo with the barn is awesome (wish it was a bit larger). So sorry about the hail storm, not fun.
How neat that you have a garden for fresh veggies. I can barely keep up with all my flowers much less a veggie garden.

I just picked a big turnip this morning it's the first time I have ever planted them..not sure why i hadn't in the past..I can't imagine how it is to plant on the prairie...San Francisco is okay thought last spring it wasn't to good for tomatoes..This is my second year with this backyard garden and I switched things around and my tomatoes are much better but I noticed last nite white flies...they made me so made..my plant was doing so good..so I washed them off and hopefully they won't come back..but I know they will..boo hoo...your onions look fantastic...happy weekend with love Janice
