Fishing In The Dark

You and me goin' fishin' in the dark....

(Sall asked me if I wanted to go
fishing at the river around 5ish last night)
I said "Hell Ya!!"
so we ate a quick burger
and threw the fishing pole in the truck
and
we were off... headed for...

where the cool grass grows...

down by the river in the full moon light...

We'll be fallin' in love in the middle of the night...

He got set up on the rocks
and I watched...

the carp were thick
along the rocks just under his fishing rod!

feeding on shad,
you could reach in and
grab as many carp as you wanted...

too bad carp aren't any good to eat!

they kept feeding
and Sall kept fishing for Walleye...

it was a beautiful night
by the light of the Dam...

We weren't having any luck catching
walleye so we went to
a different spot where Max could swim...

by then it was too dark
to take pictures,
but I can tell you Max loved it!!

I took one final picture
of a beautiful spot by the water....

hummed a little more of our grand-daughter's
favorite tune....

Stayin' the whole night thru....Feels so good to be with you!

And thought about
how lucky I am to have
a fun husband that loves me
and
takes me Fishin' in the dark!!

Happy Sunday Friend!!
Lisa.

P.S.  Of course, I have "Fishin' In The Dark"
on my MixPod playlist....scroll down and play it
(now that it's playin' in your head!)

Farm Fresh Friday #13

Welcome to Farm Fresh Friday

Thank you so much for visiting...

Please pull up a chair and
take a little time to visit the
wonderful bloggers participating
in this blog hop!!

This week on the prairie....

It's canning season

and

I'm fighting famine
and
lovin' the smell of dill
and vinegar in my house!!

The cucumber patch has been
producing and I have been
putting up lots of jars of
PICKLES!!

Dill Pickles

Sweet Relish

Beet Pickles

The steam is rollin'
out my kitchen window
and the smell of vinegar
and dill greet you
at the door!

With dill pickle season
in full swing
I barely have time
for blogging, but
it's
FARM FRESH FRIDAY!!

The big news is that
the tomatoes are finally
starting to ripen....
That means I'll be up to my elbows
in tomato juice and salsa
real soon!!

Our first red ripe tomatoes!!
Oh what a great time to be a gardener!!

Fresh garden

lettuce,

broccoli,

cucumbers,

and

tomatoes

Oh, and we pulled all of the onions now

and they are drying on a rack...

It's looking like a successful
garden year here...

So far, no hail!

Keep your fingers crossed,
this weather
can turn ugly
any time you know!

And we still have a couple
months until
melon and pumpkin harvest....

So far so good...

I hope all is well
where you are
and you will share
some fresh,
home made,
home grown,
fresh-as-a-daisy,
goodness with us this week!!

This is a place to share all things FRESH,
 homemade and/or home-grown.
There is no rule that it has to be made by you or grown by you,
just the fact that it was
hand made or grown by somebody
and not mass-produced or imported from Timmbucktu is good enough for us!!

Am I a Liebster?

SUPER Exciting news friends!  Mary at  Back to the Basics has nominated me for The Liebster Blog Award!

The Liebster Award is given to up and coming bloggers with less than 200 followers. Liebster is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing and welcome. I am so honored that Mary thought of me and my blog for this award.

Since I'm nominated,  I get to share 5 random facts about myself.

1. I am German, so maybe I could be a Liebster?

2. I prefer sweet to salty.

3. My middle school teachers always wrote on my report..."Lisa is pleasant"

4. My siblings tell me I was a cute baby

5. My husband thinks I spoil our pets, that makes me kind....

hmmmm,
5 out of 13, I'll work on the rest!

I am grateful for Mary's nomination and do hope you'll pay her a visit and pay her the same respect back for me!!

Now it's my turn to nominate 5 blogs for the Liebster Award.

Please go pay them each a visit today and tell them I think they are valued!!

1. Post about your win on your blog

Rural Thursday

In the neighborhood....

the pheasant count
is excellent!

babies of various sizes
all over the roads...

this group is heading
north down 370th Avenue
(that's straight towards our backyard!)

the meadows are still pretty...

a baby meadowlark
is wondering where the
nearest bath is?...

A couple of raindrops fell this morning

our morning glories lit up
with delight....

the wheat harvest is done,
golden bales
dot the countryside...

Farmers will probably move
right on into the corn fields
and start cutting corn for sileage...

the weeds are still green

the grass in our backyard is dead
and the poor finches are eating
anything we throw out!!

Happy to have you here,
next time could you bring a little rain with ya?
Hugs,
Lisa

Betsy's Bouquet

Ever since I planted the seeds
in April
Betsy and I have
been anxiously
waiting for our bouquet
of Sunflowers!!

Well, it's
not much of a
bouquet...

you see,
first came the weeds,
then the bugs,
then the winds...

and now I'm lucky
for 4 or 5 nice
Sunflower heads!

It's a cool and cloudy morning
so Betsy asked
if she could come over
and have her picture taken
on the farm with some
sunflowers!!

She loves her sunflowers!!

I was out with the camera anyway
(getting some shots for
tomorrow's Rural Thursday Post)
so I said come on over!!

She came prepared with
some of her own flowers
(since mine aren't the best this year)

and we did a little
tour of the farm...

snapping pictures
at every point of interest!

in front of the chicken coop...
(good thing the chickens were
on the other side of the yard!)

In the grape arbor...

under some yard junk art....

We admired some other flowers
along the way...

the hostas are almost
done blooming...

we stopped at the fish pond...

and reflected for a bit...

one last pose by the only
sunflower open today...

Isn't Betsy a great subject?
She never flinches even with
a bee buzzing around her bonnet!!

We closed the garden gate
and talked about
how and where to plant
more sunflowers next year...

maybe gathering seeds now
and planting them earlier??

Betsy had all kinds of suggestions...

that's just the way she is!

"Would you like Betsy
to visit you?
If so, I have some
medication to share with you too!!"
:)

Have a happy day,
Thanks for stopping by
and smiling with me today!!

Time For a Swim

Everywhere I go...
Everywhere I look...
Extreme Heat
is the "Hot Topic"....

We're all blogging about it,
the weatherman won't shut up about it...
and there it is outside my door
every time I step outdoors!

So I've decided to just embrace it...
Ya can't change it!

Let's just be thankful
for another lovely day
and a little heat.

and
that means it's
time for a swim....

So --

Grab your sunscreen
and your itsy-bitsy
teeny weeny
yellow
polka dot
bikini....
(yes, you heard me!)

You go first,
while I finish this cookie!!

Ummm, on second thought
I haven't been in a bikini
since my twenties
and I don't intend on
scaring off followers!!

How about a tall glass of iced tea
and a virtual swim
down memory lane??

Let's go back to my twenties
and visit my backyard pool
where my little nieces and nephews
swam and splashed up a storm!

Swimming pools have always
been one of my fascinations,
it must have been
all those years of
watching the Beverly Hillbillies...

I've always wanted my own
cement pond!

(internet photo)

Remember the show Dallas?

I was a Huge Fan!

Remember the Ewing's Pool?

That's me and a girlfriend on a High School
Swing Choir trip...

Those are my toes in Bobby Ewing's pool!!

I guess I should've moved
to Texas or California
back then!

There just aren't many
Swimming pools,
or movie stars
in
South Dakota!

Just little ol'
me in my plastic bubble bowl

Dreaming about all
the exotic
swimming pools I've visited....

Like the one's at Hearst Castle in California

Outdoor and...

Indoor...

or the one on Maui where we sat in a bar
behind this waterfall and drank Mai Tai's!!

Are you ready for a dip yet??

Anyone got a spare
ticket to Hawaii?

NO?
That's Okay!
We do have some
beautiful clear water
right here...

We swam in the Missouri River
just this morning...

the water was perfect...

The scenery was beautiful....

The water was crystal clear.

You can see your feet on the bottom...
(or your paws in Max's case...)

And the only other souls on the beach
were these 2 pair of Geese...

The only thing I'm missing
is a Mai Tai!

other than that ,
life is good!

I hope you are feeling refreshed
after this lengthy
swim session!!

Have a Happy Day,
Lisa
